Uitbreidingen zijn voornamelijk nodig voor systemen op schepen met een Unmanned Machinery Space (UMS)-notatie.\n\nHet MS 2006-WM communiceert met het bovenliggende systeem via Modbus, waarbij de uitbreiding fungeert als Modbus-slave. Meerdere MS 2006-units kunnen worden aangesloten in een multi-drop RS485-configuratie. De functionaliteit van de MS 2006-WM wordt volledig bepaald door de Modbus-master.\n\nHet apparaat beschikt over een 16-standen schakelaar om het slave-nummer of slave-ID in te stellen. Op het PCB bevinden zich vier schroefklemmen voor inkomende en uitgaande voedingsaansluitingen en vier voor de RS485-verbindingen.\n\nAan de voorzijde van het MS 2006-WM bevinden zich vijf rode LED\u2019s naast een ruimte voor tekstlabels, twee drukknoppen en een groene voeding-\/heartbeat-LED.
